The month of October brings yet another set of changes, and you might groan and roll your eyes, and say, well everything is always changing isn’t it, so what does it matter? I decide my own fate!
While there is truth to that, before you dismiss Astrology altogether, know that some of the biggest names in the world have used astrology in order to gain a competitive edge in their respective fields, some of these people include – JP Morgan, Oprah Winfrey, Apple/Steve Jobs, Disney, Coca Cola, Goldman Sachs & Bill Gates!
This is just a short summary of the key themes of the month.
We are now in the last eclipse season for 2023 – This is highly significant as it is the completion of an 18 year Nodal cycle – The nodes (eclipse points) take 18 years to make a full cycle around the sun, and are shifting out of Aries/Libra and moving into Pisces/Virgo. If you have Virgo or Pisces ascendant or moon, then the next 18 months are going to bring significant life changing events into your personal life.
Rahu and Ketu shift signs on the 29th of October – The day of the Lunar Eclipse. Big changes are afoot!
Rahu/Ketu are sensitive karmic points revealing our past and future desires, what is unfulfilled and what needs resolving. This time period that we are in right now reflects the end of one way of being and the beginning of a new path.
At present the lunar nodes are on the razor’s edge, in particular Rahu, who is right now in deep Gandanta (karmic junction) as it moves from fiery Aries to Watery Pisces. The nodes had just entered Pisces/Virgo at the time when the fated Titanic set to sail in the early 1900’s. Interestingly, JP Morgan, one of America’s most successful financiers and investment bankers was advised by his astrologer not to board the Titanic due to it being a highly inauspicious time for such ventures. The Sun was exactly conjoined with Rahu in deep gandanta @ 29. Not a time to set sail at all.
The events right now are unpredictable, turbulent, and unexpected. Gandanta transits can feel like a situation is drowning, or a knot that cannot be undone, reflecting fixed Karmas that cannot be changed but must be experienced. There may be some unpleasant surprises revealed this month, as eclipses reveal and conceal. Things are weird and tricky – Eclipses are the serpent/kundalini energy – this is a time of resolving of past karmic issues. Pay attention to your dreams! Our subconscious speaks to us in symbols.
I generally use an eclipse window orb of 3 weeks on each side – Eclipses occur in pairs, Solar (New Moon) and Lunar (Full Moon) The sun and moon are our soul and mind. When they are eclipsed we are blocked, confused, veiled or excessively activated, meaning we are not making choices from a clear state of mind – our pranic energies (Ida/Pingala) are disturbed, which is why we have to be extra mindful when out and about in the world.
On a practical level we need to be prudent, cautious and avoid making any major financial/practical/worldly decisions as the impact could be devastating or unpleasant, although it may not be obvious right now. Make choices only after the eclipses have passed and things have cleared and revealed – remember if something this month seems too good to be true, then it probably is! 15th October – Solar eclipse in Virgo/Libra – these days surrounding the eclipse need to be watched as the energies are complex and unsupportive. The sun is our soul – we can be deeply confused as to what is our true path in life. Virgo is about health, healing and purity, Libra is about other people/relationships – People may be coming at us from all directions. It can be an explosive time with Mars afflicted by Ketu in Libra. Yet the Shakti (power) of this Eclipse is Punya Cayani – The Power to gain merit through righteous action in life – we are blessed in all kinds of creative and dharmic action that furthers the benefit and development of society.
Plan for simplicity over this weekend, large crowds and gatherings could be particularly chaotic or overwhelming. Buyers remorse is likely. Avoid falling head over heels over a new date – things are not all they seem. Eclipses are deceptive, smokey and illusory times. We can make great gains, but they often come at a great cost too. Things that start now may be difficult to get out of, and as great as it seems now, later on you may be stuck – so do your research, lay low and be observant!
There is a lot of unclear and smokey energy now. Eclipses hide the truth.
We come into contact with shady people. Shiny on the outside but empty on the inside. Deception is on a high. Remember, all that glitters is not gold!!
Rahu is a force of dissatisfaction, fear and paranoia. It operates in the subconscious mind – so please, don’t do things that aggravate and further imbalance your psyche, such as casual sex, excessive alcohol, meats and activities that lower your vibration!
At least use the eclipse times to gain in self awareness, do some inner work, clear the house, clutter and get rid of things.
Mercury (intellect) will be Combust (burnt by the sun) impacting our executive faculties, planning and logistics, though exalted, so it still gives strength and sharp, quick thinking, but the overall energy is still confusing as it is being aspected by retrograde Neptune, planet of addictions and grand illusions. Be aware of vauge and unclear plans. However it can be an excellent time for creative, artistic and genius thinking.
It is a time to cultivate clear communication and move forward with unresolved issues and situations.
Jupiter / Rahu / Uranus in Aries are forming a 6/8 relationship to the Sun / Moon & Mercury in Virgo triggering emotional stresses and conflict, Mars / Ketu are together in Libra, catalyzing conflict and tension within existing relationships and partnerships incl. family & business. There may be conflict in work situations that is unavoidable. Avoid taking shortcuts now, it will backfire. The Sun moves into Libra on the 17th, which can be good for diplomacy but make sure you are not just being a doormat. Not the best time for health as our immunity is weakened when the sun is debilitated, so be mindful of burnout and take care of yourself!! Mars combustion may create fiery and explosive situations. Overall this month needs to be handled with care and caution.
Mars Combust Sept 23 – Jan 18
Mars is the warrior, the strategist, the commander in chief – he connects to our energy, direction, courage, aggression and power. When combust, his power diminishes and we feel less motivation to get things done, especially if you are Aries/Scorpio. Power struggles and confusion of direction becomes likely. This is a ‘rebirth ‘ time for mars, impacting Aries/Scorpio or whatever area of life these signs fall in your house.
For the better part of this year Venus has been revolutionizing our desires, wants, needs and values, which reflects heavily in the choice of our partners, (there have been so many celebrity breakups and separations). Venus is now is back in Leo, many situations regarding relationships can move forward. Venus governs families, treasuries, wealth, partners, spouse, relaxation, intimacy, affection, business, pleasure and comforts. Wherever Venus is placed, and which planet aspects her impacts these areas of life.
This month she comes under the gaze of Saturn once she moves into Leo on the 2nd Oct, bringing awareness to responsibilities (and limitations) around finances, wealth management and partnerships/marriage. Leo/Sun/Venus combinations often reflect ego clashes in partnerships and selfishness which leads to marriage breakdowns.
Venus has been through a major journey this year, with multiple gandanta crossings, retrograde, combust and transitioning from evening to morning star. From 3rd -30th Nov, Venus moves to her weakest sign Virgo. This will impact the health and wellbeing of Taurus/Libra. Virgo is not a great place for the planet of love because she tends to find fault and criticizes her lovers rather than learning to love and accept them as they are… But we can learn many lessons from those we love – Venus is a tough Guru, teaching us that true happiness cannot ever come from possession, wealth or money. True wealth is that of the heart, of wisdom and compassion.
