Vedic New Year Predictions Samvatsara Shri Krodhi

In India and to followers of Sanatana Dharma, the new year is marked by the month ‘Chaitra’, which spans March-April every year.

It is said in the Brahma Puranas that Lord Brahma began the creation of the universe on the Shukla Pratipada Tithi – which is the first lunar phase after the new moon in Pisces, in the month of Chaitra.

Chaitra shukla pratipada this year falls on April 9th, just a day after the Full solar eclipse, with the Sun moving into Aries on the 14th. This is always a bright and auspicious time of the year, as the Sun – the principle of the Soul Fire is in its most exhalted state and thus brings power, strength and opulence.

The Gregorian new year begins without any specific astronomical relevance, and so the “new year” begins still carrying themes fo the previous year, until the *true* new year in April.

In Vedic timekeeping, a solar year is called ‘Samvatsara’, a 60 year cycle based on the interplay of the orbits of Saturn and Jupiter, with each year carrying specific significations and meanings.

Saturn moves approximately 2 minutes daily, taking 30 years to to cycle through the zodiac. Jupiter moves approx 5 minutes daily, taking 12 years to cycle through the zodiac. It is the various angles between Saturn and Jupiter which define the nature of each Samvatsara. No other planets have such a profound impact on the growth and development of an individual or society, than Jupiter & Saturn.

More information can be found in the Surya Siddhanta and the Bhrigu Samhita classics.

Every 60 years, Jupiter and Saturn conjoin, just as they did in 2020 – it reflects a significant turning point in the foundations, structures and values of society. The last time they conjoined was in 1960 – a significantly revolutionary time. 2020 was also a defining turning point in world history with the global impact of coronavirus.

Each 60 year cycle is divided into 3 parts/cycles of 20 samvatsaras(years) associated with the 3 gunas, Rajas, Sattva & Tamas, or, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the Creative, Sustaining and Destructive forces of the universe.

Have you noticed that life since 2019 has been a wild ride?
Lets look at the meaning of these years to understand the energetic signatures.
It is interesting to note the definitions for the years in which we have been in the pandemic :

2019- 20 – Vikārī  (vikāra) Sick, ill, afflicted with some disease or mental disturbance. – It also translates at repugnant or repulsive
2020 – 21 Shārvari – Sharvari means “night or twilight” or “pernicious or murderous” –  according to hindu/vedic ancestral predictions, this year is known to bring famine and trouble
2021- 22 – Plava  – Refers to the animal “pelican” or a boat – a vessel which carries us across. This year has been about carrying ourselves and others, across difficult terrain, we have certainly crossed significant thresholds.
2022 – 23 –  Shubhakruth – ‘Shubha’ means auspicious or good and ‘Shubhakruth’ means the doing of the deeds of auspiciousness or goodness. There is indication of success in undertakings
2023 – 24Sobhakritu – Associated with brilliance, success, excellence and auspiciousness,. There will be good production but some uncertainty will prevail
*2024 – 25*Krodhi – Symbolised by an angry man – Krodhi year is characterised by cruelty, anger, lustfulness and sin – it is a difficult year.

The Vedic new year chart is for 6am, 9.4.2024

You can see most of the planets are in Pisces, Saturn and Mars in the 12th in Aquarius, Jupiter and Mercury in the 2nd in Aries.

The vedic new year occurs just after the solar eclipse, so the year is infused with Rahu energies. Interestingly, Iran’s birth chart, 1/4/1979 @ 3pm shows the majority of planets in Pisces &  Aquarius indicating direct impact from April’s astrological events, which are in part linked to the changes which began to unfold once Saturn started to move into Aquarius in Sept 2022 – the time when Mahsa Amini was killed.

In fact Iran is stepping into about 7-8 years of significant change, transformation, unrest and instability, I will be making a separate post/video on this, however I have already touched on some of the astrology for Iran in the latest podcast episode which you can listen to by clicking on the image below :

Under a Vedic Sky

General themes for the next 12 months

The intense conjunction of multiple planets around the sun in pisces for this years chart shows high level of energy for this year – there will be lots of motivation, activity and energy this year, with big ups and downs. Moon with Venus does indicate a certain softness and sweetness, and also spiritual wealth/gains. Venus is the teacher of Rahu/Ketu, so his strength can hopefully guide some of the chaos/desire/ambition.

Rahu/Sun shows that ambitions will be at an all time high, people will be more selfish, self centred and egoistic, particularly politicians and other people in power with strong desires to dominate, attain and secure material goods. Food, resources, assets, security (cyber and land) will be a major focus this year as indicated by Jupiter’s placement in the 2nd house of wealth & assets.

There will be greater instances of financial fraud, corruption and leaders being exposed. Gold and Iron ore prices will increase.

People’s interest in spirituality will expand greatly, but there will also be lots of false leaders/guides who can create mistrust, so it is important to know/fake and how to listen to your intuition

Saturn + Mars together in the 12th house is a violent and antagonistic conjunction, 12th house means hidden enemies, friends may not have good intentions and tense relations make the news. The overloading energy of this Year – Shri Krodhi – reflects an angry, quarrelsome man, lacking self control.”

Mars is the “King” this year, and Saturn is the Chief Minister and being conjoined in the diabolical star Purva Bhadrapada means that high levels of intensity, calamity, aggression and disturbing events take place.

There will be more earth related issues particularly around the mercury retrograde and station dates – which we already saw in April, it will be again in May, August and November/December – such as  landslides, earthquakes, eruptions, fire and explosions, car and vehicular accidents, fighting etc.

However Krodhi is also associated with Medicine, healing and ‘roots’ – suggesting that great advancements and breakthroughs will be revealed this year, particularly as Aquarius is a sign connected to technology and medicine – sometimes you need harshness in order to succeed.

So this year will have significant ups and downs – due to the collective unconscious, most people live their lifes puppeteered by their unconscious, and thus are are greater influence to the shifting sands of karma and planetary influence.

But for the souls who choose to develop their minds, hearts and conscounessness, we have to bear witness to the world in its state and do our best to continue to elevate and evolve.
