While it doesn’t have to be a wild ride, lets shuffle these cards and see what’s on the table.
Firstly, who’s Mars?
The planet Mars transmits the universal frequency of Fire, transformation, power and raw energy. These qualities express in the red color spectrum, and governs the sense of sight, for fire produces Light, and it is our eyes which ‘see’. Fire is also connected to desire, for we see the object of our desire, we are inspired, inflamed, aroused, awakened, (another expression of fire) and we take action – with our feet, to move in that direction.
Mars is the Roman god of war. In Vedic Astrology, Mars has many names – Mangala, or Murugan, Kuja, Angaaraka. Mind born son of Shiva and Bhudevi – the earth goddess. Mars is said to be one having a red complexion, to be driven with desire and passion, bordering on lust. Mars can be extremely creative or destructive, much like his father, Shiva
Most commonly, we associate mars as being connected to anger, aggression and the overall fighting spirit and on the mundane level, issues with police, generals, warfare, tension, cyber attacks, assertion, leadership, ambition, endurance and sex drive.
20/10 – Mars moves to Cancer – This is a dangerous time for the world, with major planetary players – USA, Israel, Iran and Lebanon being directly impacted by the current transits, and all having significant placements in sidereal Cancer sign.
December is a critical month for the middle east/USA and some major events is highly likely particularly around the station dates 5-9 December
as Mercury will also be retrograde in Scorpio, and Rahu will be aspecting from Pisces – adding fuel to the fire. This is a complex time – keep your plans simple.
Mars is considered a defeated warrior in Cancer sign, it is considered debilitated and is also slowing down to move retrograde. Retrogression of a malefic planet increases its negative propensities, as the planet becomes strong in its weakness.

Mars moves from enemy sign Gemini into debilitation Cancer on 20th October. It then stations 5 – 9 December (these are critical dates for the middle east and USA) reversing its motion and moving back through Cancer, into Gemini in January, stationing again from 22-26 Feb, before moving forward and then moving forward into Cancer.
A planet retrograding over two different signs indicates a sharp contrast in elemental forces. Water and Air – missiles, bombs, flooding and other water related incidences. Retrograde malefic planets twist their energies and become more malefic, distorted and dangerous. The planet becomes stronger, for good or bad.
However, when a planet is debilitated and retrograde, it is said to act like its in its exalted state – which means Mars will act, or behave as though it is in Capricorn. There will be a tremendous amount of energy and intensity, but there is still underlying weakness. Since Mars will be moving across two signs, there will be much indecision, back and forth movement before finally settling on a direction. This will happen after March/April 2025.
Scorpio and Aries signs are most affected, as Mars is your ruling planet. Those with planets in Mars ruled nakshatras are also impacted: Chitra, Mrigashira & Dhanistha and if your are currently running Mars Mahadasha
Once in Cancer, Mars becomes like a defeated warrior, and although cancer sign can help to promote a nurturing and understanding perspective, Mars in Cancer just has to work harder to acheive the results it desires, the overall theme is frustration. You may feel low on courage, poor decision making, passive aggressive behavior, confusion in life path/direction, weak will and a rise in emotional violence/violence against females and specific issues around homeland security.
In the higher state, Mars in Cancer can invite one to be courageous in exploring the emotional self, hidden psychological patterns which may be limiting freedom. This can be a time to take gentle, yet firm action to resolve specific issues in your life. Mars is about strategy and you will be forced to shift your approach, especially when Mercury turns retrograde in Scorpio at the end of November.
Cancer is connected to the moon, so people will be more emotional, not thinking clearly, acting impulsively, filled with nostalgia, too much clinging and sentiment. It is a time to be patient, delegate, calm down, introspect and reflect on the past. Issues may not be clear so we need to consider our options and possibly Re-strategize, review and change our plans, before things smooth out after the March eclipses.
